Art Workshops
Our art workshops at The Rivershop are an invitation to slow down, create with your hands, and reconnect with nature. These sessions are thoughtfully designed and taught by guest teacher Botanica & Field, whose practice centres around natural materials, seasonal inspiration, and gentle creativity.
Whether you’re just starting out or returning to a creative practice, our art workshops provide an open and supportive space to explore new techniques and reconnect with the joy of making.
Throughout the year, we offer a changing selection of workshops including pressed flower art, flower preservation, watercolour painting, nature sketching, and wreath making. All materials are provided, and each session is carefully guided with plenty of room for personal expression.
Who are the art workshops for?
For beginners
If you’re new to art or haven’t made anything in years, these workshops are a welcoming place to begin. You’ll be guided step by step, with no pressure and plenty of encouragement. Many people come to our art workshops simply to try something new in a calm and creative space.
For curious creatives
If you already enjoy making and want to learn something different, our sessions offer thoughtful techniques and new materials to explore. Whether you’re building on existing skills or combining mediums like watercolour and sketching, you’ll find freedom and inspiration here.
For those craving calm
Our art workshops are a quiet pause in the week – a few hours to unplug, work with your hands, and let your mind rest. Many of our participants come not just to learn, but to take a break from the noise of daily life.
For private groups and gatherings
We also offer bespoke workshops for private groups. Whether you’re planning a birthday, a mindful hen party, or a creative team day, we can tailor a workshop around your group. Options include flower preservation, wreath making, pressed flower art, and more.
A closer look at some of the workshops
Pressed Flower Art
Create delicate, botanical compositions using hand-pressed seasonal blooms and foliage. This is a meditative, mindful process where no two pieces are the same. Taught by Botanica & Field, this workshop is ideal for those who enjoy working with fine detail and natural materials. In addition to creating your own pressed flower artwork, you’ll also learn the technical side of flower pressing – including how to retain vibrant colour, prevent browning, and correct fading – giving you the confidence to press flowers at home with lasting results.
Flower Preservation
In this workshop, you’ll learn simple and beautiful ways to preserve flowers through pressing and drying. Whether you’re saving wedding flowers, blooms from your garden, or seasonal finds, you’ll come away with practical techniques for keeping them long after their moment has passed. To finish, you’ll create a preserved flower wall hanging – a personal and lasting celebration of the season and the flowers you’ve worked with.
Watercolour Painting
Explore the fluidity and softness of watercolour with natural subjects like leaves, florals, or still life elements. You’ll learn about colour layering, brush techniques, and composition in a relaxed, exploratory session suitable for all levels. Each class is designed to encourage freedom and experimentation, with plenty of guidance along the way.
Sketching from Nature
These sessions help you develop confidence in drawing what you see. You’ll work with natural forms – seed pods, flowers, leaves – and focus on line, texture, and tone. It’s a grounding practice that often pairs beautifully with our other art workshops, and a wonderful way to build your creative observation skills.
Wreath Making
This seasonal workshop invites you to craft your own natural wreath using dried flowers, foliage, and gathered elements. Each wreath is unique and reflects the time of year. Whether for a celebration, a gift, or simply to bring the outside in, this is a joyful and expressive session filled with texture and creativity.
A creative rhythm through the seasons
Our art workshops follow the rhythm of the year, with each session inspired by seasonal colour, texture, and materials. Spring brings fresh petals and soft hues; summer offers vibrant colour and abundance; autumn leans into earthy tones and texture; and winter invites introspection through evergreens, dried flowers, and wreath making.
Workshops are held at The Rivershop and taught by guest teacher Botanica & Field, whose nature-led approach brings care and creativity to every session.
